Responsible Innovation

How CancerPath combines research, behavioural science and technology to support earlier cancer awareness and help-seeking.

Last updated: 27 June 2026

Our approach

CancerPath combines research evidence, behavioural science and digital technology to support earlier cancer awareness and help-seeking. We believe that digital tools can play a meaningful role in helping people recognise symptoms, engage with screening and take informed action — but only when they are designed responsibly, grounded in evidence and transparent about their purpose and limitations.

Research-led design

CancerPath is informed by doctoral research into cancer help-seeking behaviour and health inequalities. Our content, pathways and user experience are designed to reflect evidence about how people interact with health information, what barriers prevent earlier help-seeking and how digital interventions can support positive behaviour change.

Behavioural science

We apply behavioural science principles to reduce friction, provide clear next steps and encourage timely action. This includes using plain English, progressive disclosure, clear calls to action and signposting to professional healthcare services at every relevant stage.

Complementing — not replacing — professional healthcare

CancerPath is designed to complement, not replace, professional healthcare. The platform provides educational information and signposting to help people make informed decisions about their health. It does not diagnose cancer, and it should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Informed decision-making

We promote informed decision-making by presenting evidence-based information in a clear, accessible way. Where users report concerning symptoms through our symptom navigator, we actively encourage them to seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional — such as their GP or NHS 111.

Important

CancerPath does not diagnose cancer and should not replace professional medical advice. If you have persistent or concerning symptoms, please contact your GP, NHS 111 or emergency services as appropriate. See our Medical Disclaimer for full details.
