Clinical safety framework
CancerPath is designed with clinical safety as a foundational principle. While the platform does not provide clinical services, it adheres to safety standards appropriate for a digital health information platform:
- All cancer information is sourced from publicly available, evidence-based references including NHS guidance.
- Content is reviewed by a Public Health professional to ensure accuracy and appropriateness.
- The symptom navigator provides general guidance only and always encourages users to seek professional medical advice.
- Clear signposting to appropriate NHS services (GP, NHS 111, emergency services) is provided throughout the platform.
Risk management
CancerPath takes a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating clinical safety risks:
- Content accuracy: Regular review of all cancer information to ensure it reflects current evidence and NHS guidance.
- Clear disclaimers: Prominent medical disclaimers throughout the platform reinforce that CancerPath does not diagnose or replace professional medical advice.
- Escalation pathways: Users presenting with concerning symptoms are directed to appropriate NHS services.
- Incident reporting: A process is in place for reporting and reviewing any safety concerns raised by users or partner organisations.
Future clinical safety commitments
As CancerPath evolves, we are committed to:
- Aligning with DCB0129 and DCB0160 clinical risk management standards where applicable.
- Engaging with clinical safety officers and NHS clinical leads during NHS pilot deployments.
- Conducting regular clinical safety case reviews as the platform's functionality expands.
